What is SmartMarket?

SmartMarket is AI-powered location intelligence for expansion. It brings site selection, white-space discovery, revenue prediction, competitor analysis and CXO dashboards into one platform, so a city becomes a ranked, explainable shortlist of where to open next rather than a debate. Every new location is a large bet; SmartMarket replaces gut feel with verifiable data science.

What data does SmartMarket use?

It runs on the Lepton Data Observatory, our unified India dataset stack: 30M+ POIs, demographics, affluence, footfall at 150m grids, infrastructure, mobility and 3D buildings. That is combined with Google Places Insights for live place-quality signals, and with your own sales and store data so scores reflect your network, not a generic model.

How does site selection actually work?

A city is broken into 150m x 150m grids. Each grid is enriched with footfall, affluence, income, competitors and adjacency, then given a weightage-based composite Smart Score. The result is a ranked shortlist on a map dashboard, with the reasons behind each score visible, so you can see not just where to open next but why it ranks where it does.

Will new sites cannibalize our existing ones?

SmartMarket runs cannibalization checks before recommending a site. It models drive-time catchment overlap across your own network, so a candidate that would mostly pull customers from a store you already run is flagged rather than recommended. White-space analysis uses the same logic to find demand-rich, competition-light zones with no internal overlap.

Can SmartMarket predict revenue for a site?

Yes. A machine-learning model trained on your sales history and location attributes produces monthly and annual revenue ranges, with confidence intervals, for each candidate site. The forecast is grounded in how your own outlets actually perform, which is why it improves as it learns from your network rather than relying on a one-size-fits-all benchmark.

Do executives need a GIS analyst to use it?

No. SmartMarket is a two-surface product. The AI Reports tier lets an executive ask a plain question, such as "QSR in Bengaluru", and get a ranked, presentation-ready answer, and validate any address in minutes. The Platform tier gives GIS analysts and data scientists the raw granular datasets, custom expansion models and BI integration. See the two ways to work with SmartMarket.

Which industries is SmartMarket built for?

Retail, QSR and restaurants, FMCG and distribution, BFSI, quick commerce, telecom and emerging categories such as EV charging. The buyer is usually an expansion, strategy or CXO leader; the day-to-day user is often a GIS analyst. The modules stay the same across industries; the data weighting and the question change.

How does Google Places Insights fit in?

Google Places Insights is built into SmartMarket as a live source of place-quality signals such as ratings, reviews and operating attributes, layered on top of the Lepton Data Observatory. It is delivered through BigQuery and refreshed monthly, covering 250M+ places across 300+ place types with 70+ attributes each, so competitor and place quality in a score reflects the market as it stands rather than a stored snapshot. Lepton is a Google Maps Platform Premier Partner, and that data feeds straight into every score.

We already buy POI and footfall data, why SmartMarket?

Raw data is noise; answers are the signal. SmartMarket unifies the datasets and ships the analysis layer on top, catchments, cannibalization checks, white space and revenue prediction, plus executive AI reports. You are not buying another raw feed to stitch together; you are getting a ranked, explainable expansion decision out the other side.

Our expansion team already knows the city. What does SmartMarket add?

It keeps your team’s intuition and adds a scoring model that explains itself across more than a hundred unified datasets. The context matters: in India, an estimated 50% of new restaurants still close within their first year (external industry figure), and that is the cost of deciding on gut feel alone. SmartMarket turns local knowledge into a decision you can defend with verifiable data science.

How fast is it to a usable answer?

With AI Reports, a location or city question returns an answer in minutes, and the demo flow is single-click. The product is built so insight to decision takes minutes, not months, which is the difference SmartMarket is designed to make against the cost and time of manual surveys and repeated site visits.

Can our own analysts use their own models?

Yes. The Platform tier exposes raw granular data, supports custom expansion models and integrates with your BI stack, so a data-science team can build on the Lepton Data Observatory directly rather than working only through prebuilt reports. Executives stay on AI Reports; analysts get the full platform.
