Site safety and field assets, proven at the action
Depth was only the start. SmartBuild is becoming a construction compliance platform where every site-safety measure, cabinet and pole is captured as evidence the moment the work happens, not attested in a report weeks later. Pole equipment is identified and counted straight from an image.

Compliance is the work, not the report
SmartBuild started as a depth-validation tool: prove that the trench was dug deep enough and the bore ran true. That was version zero. The platform is now evolving into an end-to-end construction quality and compliance layer, where every site-safety measure, manhole, joint closure and restoration is captured as evidence at the moment of construction.
Site safety and field assets are central to that shift. Barricading, crew PPE, roadside cabinets and the equipment on a pole are exactly the things that get rushed at month-end and reconstructed afterward from memory. SmartBuild captures them as the action happens, so the record is the work, not a document written about it later.
What gets captured at the worksite
Safety and assets, recorded as evidence
- 01
Pole equipment, identified and counted
Computer vision identifies the equipment fixed to a pole and auto-fills the count straight from an image, so the inventory comes from what the camera saw, not a manual tally.
- 02
Site barricading, logged in place
Barricading evidence captured at the worksite, geo-tagged to the location it protects. In-pipeline computer-vision validation per the current roadmap.
- 03
Crew safety gear on record
Personal protective equipment captured at the moment crews are on site, framed as faster site closure and an anti-tamper record. Computer-vision detection is in pipeline.
- 04
Field cabinets, captured as built
Roadside cabinets recorded as part of the site record. Computer-vision validation for cabinets is in pipeline alongside trench restoration.
From v0 to the platform
The evolution from depth-only to full compliance
Version zero answered a single question well: how deep is the trench? But on a real rollout, depth is one of many things an audit asks about. Was the site barricaded? Was the crew in PPE? Is the cabinet where the plan says it is? Are the right counts of equipment on each pole?
SmartBuild closes that gap by treating compliance as something embedded in every field action, captured at source. The whitespace is what nobody captures yet: the full picture of a build, recorded as it is constructed rather than reconstructed in an audit months later.
Captured at the worksite, not attested afterward.
The barricade ring goes on record at the location it protects, and the pole auto-counts its equipment from the image. The safety state and the asset count are the field action itself, geo-tagged and time-stamped, not a form filled in later.
How SmartBuild captures it
Auto-fill from the image, not a manual entry
SmartBuild is operations-first and field-first: the field app captures evidence at source, and computer vision reads the image to auto-fill what it sees. For pole inspection, that means the equipment on a pole is identified and counted straight from a photo rather than typed in by hand. Auto-fill is both a speed gain and an anti-tamper measure, because the record comes from the captured image, not from a number someone could invent.
What captured-at-source safety changes
- 01
The record is the work
Barricading, PPE and pole counts are logged as the action happens, so the site record reflects what was actually done.
- 02
Harder to fabricate
Auto-fill from images means counts and states come from the captured photo, not from a number entered after the fact.
- 03
Faster site closure
Capturing safety and asset evidence in place closes a site on the first pass instead of waiting on a follow-up survey.
Where it stands
Proven in proof-of-concept, building toward v1
SmartBuild is mid-build. Six computer-vision use cases are proven in proof-of-concept, including pole-equipment identification, with cabinets, trench restoration, crew PPE and site barricading in the validation pipeline. The product is on its v1 path, and the site-safety and field-asset capabilities described here are part of that build.
